There is in fact such a thing as perfect encryption (perfect secrecy) for example using a &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-time%20pad"&gt;One-time pad&lt;/a&gt;. The One-time pad uses a key that is the same length as the clear text and is used only once. Such a system would not be practical for hard drive encryption, but it does exist.&lt;/p&gt;
